In someways, in comparison to her husband Patrick, Gemma holds the masculine power that exudes a powerful and strong will to survive. Ushered in this world with an unbridled talent so rare, it bleeds through. She is the lost little girl with too much of everything and nobody, including her, knows what to do with it. The only time she is in control is when she on the stage performing the perfect song, as if it was written about her. She is the magnet that draws in her audience. The bewitching starlet casts a spell on the world. Like Tinkerbell, she needs the fervor and applause to live. Both a pioneer and an ambitious spirit of true conviction, Gemma embodies the rarest Valentine’s Day gift known to man, the stimuli that alters the perception we have on sexuality and the irrational anger we fear. She is not the same girl her husband sees in his vision and that is her tragic error. Her downfall is her overall aggressiveness and engulfing dominant personality that overwhelms Patrick. Character: Gemma Valentina Cruz Quinn (stage name- Gemma Valentine)
Creation: Gemma Valentine is an award winning singer and actress. Hailed as world class actress and and a phenomenon, she is the much heralded “girl on fire.” The Spanish actress is at the height of her career, at the top of her game. Her histrionic and delusional idiosyncratic behaviors have clouded her judgement. Gemma becomes more subdued and lets her husband take command. Patrick becomes increasingly violent, addicted to drugs, cigarettes, and stalking unsuspecting neighbors. Gemma becomes his punching bag. She feels betrayed by him and feels that it’s because he sees her as an object and not a woman. After Paloma’s
untimely death, Gemma snaps out of Patrick’s control. Her eyes can see her husband’s sheer descent to his own madness. That craze psychoneuroses eats away at him. He no longer
resembles that man she loves but it all makes sense. He never loved her but the image she projects on the screen. As much as she tries to steer him away from the film that brought him to ground zero, fate is unavoidable. Through many of their outings as Hollywood’s power couple, Gemma and Patrick are known as the “Toxic Quinns.”
For the role of Gemma, I am currently the only person in my mind who can play this character. I wrote her to be my debut as I have been in theater for over ten years now. I have taken a hiatus to hone my craft and write my first feature length film in which I act a character as incredibly daring as Gemma Valentine. I also plan to sing the two songs in the film, “Cruel Madness” and “Far Away From the Maddening Crowd.” I am a ethnic ambiguous character and from the very beginning, I have been aware that in order to get the best starring roles, I would have to be in the driver seat. This is the role I was born to play.
